CHALLENGE #11 COMPLETED - NEW CHALLENGE COMING SOON!

Challenge #11 has been completed and we will be listing another new challenge on Wednesday, March 16th (probably between 11 am and Noon, Eastern Daylight Savings Time.

As usual, challenges are listed both here and on our Facebook page, but the majority of pledges are received on our Facebook site.   Numbers still needed in each category/size are updated as quickly as possible here on the blog.   If you click on the small "Comment" tab at the bottom of the challenge post, it should give you a comment line in which you can type your pledge.   We need to know the number you are pledging in whichever categories/sizes you wish to make and/or number of washcloths.   Washcloths can be crocheted, knitted, or sewn.  Crocheted or knitted washcloths should be made using cotton yarn (sport- or worsted-weight).  Sewn washcloths should be made using a soft, absorbent material, such as, flannel.  Small, handmade bath mitts for children are acceptable, too.  (No attachments to any items for small children is recommended due to the possible choking hazard they pose.)

CHALLENGE #11 - 2016

ALEXANDRA HOUSE
BLAINE, MINNESOTA

****CHALLENGE COMPLETED****

"Where hope grows and violence ends.”

“I learned that you don't have to take abuse from anyone and that I am worthy and truly blessed. R.” - Two quotes from the Alexandra House website.

The information that I see on a shelter website helps us write the introduction to our challenges. Abuse of those of us in our “golden years” happens, also, and I've noticed shelters have services aimed at seniors. One of those shelters is Alexandra House. Abuse in Later In Life Services have grown a great deal thanks to a grant and local support. Abuse of seniors is growing rapidly. The needs of abused seniors are unique and they are vulnerable. We all want our golden years to be filled with joy and dignity not abuse.

For Alexandra House we need:

35 women - DONE

2 teen boys - DONE

7 preteen girls - DONE

7 preteen boys - DONE

7 youth girls - DONE

7 youth boys - DONE

7 toddler girlS - DONE

7 toddler boys - DONE

5 infant booties girls - DONE

5 infant booties boys - DONE

90 washcloths - DONE

HAPPY THURSDAY, EVERYONE, AND WELCOME TO ALL OF OUR NEW MEMBERS!

We've been a little quiet here at The Pink Slipper Project this week, but hopefully everyone has been working on their pledges for the last few challenges!

MY QUESTION: HOW MANY ARE READY TO TACKLE ANOTHER NEW CHALLENGE??????

Rachel has been quietly working in the background lining up challenges for us to do over the next few weeks while she takes a little break. Lynne and I will be taking care of things here on the blog and our Facebook page, and I am sure Rachel will be popping in from time to time.

Now......who is ready for a CHALLENGE?????

CHALLENGE #10 HAS BEEN COMPLETED!

Our challenge for the shelter in Anchorage, Alaska, has been completed!   We are going to warms lots of toes up there!    A big THANK YOU goes out to all of our wonderful supporters who jump right in with their pledges when we put the call out, "We have a Challenge!"

We have several shelters already lined up for new challenges and will probably be posting information on the next challenge sometime next week.   We hope you will decide to join in!  If you look at some of our previous challenges below, you will see the various categories and sizes that we usually ask for, plus homemade washcloths, too.   No pledge is ever too small.  Even one pair of slippers or one or two washcloths goes a long way to meeting our challenge!   All pledges are very much appreciated.

If you have any questions on how we operate, please do not hesitate to ask us.

Still need a few pledges for #10

Hi, everyone!   Our latest challenge is moving along very well for the women and children at AWAIC in Anchorage, Alaska, but we still need a few more pledges to finish.

We still need pledges for 12 pairs of women's slippers and 5 washcloths.

If you are interested in joining with us, please put your pledge in a comment below, then make what you pledged, and mail them off to the address listed in the Challenge information below by the mailing date!

We generally use acrylic yarn for our slippers and cotton yarn (always) for the washcloths.   Doubling up on #4 medium worsted weight or #5 bulky yarn works well for slippers, if you can.  You can use any pattern you wish (lots of links to free patterns, including our own, on our Pinterest page, too).   However, we do ask that you do not add embellishments, such as, buttons or other small items that could easily be pulled off and swallowed, to any slippers for babies and young children.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

*****NEW CHALLENGE****

CHALLENGE #10  -  2016

ABUSED WOMEN’S AID IN CRISIS
Anchorage, Alaska

We are heading north again to visit at AWAIC in Anchorage, Alaska. As they have in the past they were pleased that more warm slippers would be heading their way. The shelter is at or over capacity 6 months a year. We know it can get very cold in Alaska so let's make sure that their slippers are really warm. We can do this by making sure that we use smaller sizes for our needles and hooks so the resulting fabric will be firm and dense. If you can see through it, it is too loose.

AWAIC can use:

  70 women - DONE

    2 teen boys - DONE
   5 preteen girls - DONE
   5 preteen boys - DONE
   5 youth girls - DONE

   5 youth boys - DONE
   5 toddler girls - DONE

   5 toddler boys - DONE
   5 girls booties - DONE
   5 boys booties - DONE
110 washcloths - DONE

MAILING DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2016

REMEMBER: If you wish to make a pledge, put it in a comment on this post. We try to keep the numbers in each category updated as pledges come in (both here and on our Facebook page. If a category you pledge to has already been completed before we update the numbers here, we will notify you! Thank you for helping to warm the hearts and toes of women and children in domestic violence shelters across the nation!
