CHALLENGE #29 - 2018

MERRYMAN HOUSE
Paducah, Kentucky

****CHALLENGE COMPLETED****

“Women Aware, Inc., (known as the Merryman House) began with a small group of concerned women who were willing to open their homes to abused women and children.  They answered their phones in the middle of the night, opened their doors to those in need of shelter and opened their hearts to those who needed someone to see the reality of the dangers and trauma they faced.  Out of their openness, a dark issue, which remained largely closed to the public, began to be openly addressed.  Over time, the Merryman House has become much more than an emergency shelter.  It has become a comprehensive advocacy and support center that is devoted to addressing the comprehensive needs of survivors.”

Merryman House is a repeat shelter for PSP and we would again like to send them slippers, washcloths, and pet cozies.

SLIPPERS and WASHCLOTHS:  (Due to the smaller numbers requested, please make all baby and children’s slippers in colors suitable for either a boy or a girl. As always, we request that there be no attachments to children’s slippers due to a possible choking hazard. Thank you.)

  5 Men/Teen Boys - DONE
  8 Preteens - DONE
  8 Youths - DONE
  8 Toddlers - DONE

PET COZIES:  The shelter has requested only a smaller size to be used for cats and small dogs (less than 20 lbs.).

Pet blankets can be crocheted, knitted, or sewn. If crocheted/knitted, it’s best to use several strands of #4 yarn or a bulky/super bulky yarn and a tight stitch to make a dense fabric. If sewing, use a sturdy, washable fabric, such as denim, flannel, heavy cotton, and add a layer of batting in between fabric layers. Please run one or two rows of stitching across the blanket to keep the batting in place when washed.
