CHALLENGE #33-2021 IS COMPLETE!!

CHALLENGE #33-2021

Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services

Oshkosh, Wisconsin

Christine Ann is a repeat shelter for us and they have enjoyed everything they have received.  Although they don't have a pet program, they do have a shelter dog, Ross.  He is well loved by everyone and he especially enjoyed receiving the blanket that was made just for him and got very excited about it.  That means we'll send him a nice new one!  Christine Ann incorporates knitting and crocheting in their self-care support group.  This group is a wonderful place for their clients to focus on themselves and find different ways to care for themselves physically and mentally. Knitting and crocheting definitely fits into that category.  We are all very aware of the benefits received from picking up our own needles and hooks.

CHALLENGE #28-2021 IS COMPLETE!

FAITH HOUSE

Lafayette, Louisiana

Faith House was founded in 1980 as a shelter for homeless women. Calls from abused women were received and increased with time.  In 1992, Faith House was designated as a battered women's program exclusively.  The first shelter had 28 beds and were reluctant to turn anyone away.  A volunteer and member of the Board of Directors began fundraising for a larger shelter. The volunteer called 10 friends, who called 10 more friends and so on and Women Helping Women was formed. With seed money, ground was broken in 1998 for a new 45 bed shelter and the new larger shelter opened on Christmas Eve that year. Faith House has served over 11,000 since its inception.
