CHALLENGE #23 - 2018

The Underground Railroad, Inc. serves all residents of Saginaw County who are victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and human slavery.  In operation since 1977, Underground Railroad, Inc. is the only provider of emergency shelter, services, leadership and programs to end domestic violence and sexual violence in the community. 

We would like to send them the following:

  65  women’s -   DONE
    3  teen boys - DONE
    8  pre-teen girls - DONE
    8  pre-teen boys - DONE
  12  youth girls -  DONE
  12  youth boys -  DONE
  12  toddler girls -  DONE
  12  toddler boys - DONE
  10  girls booties - DONE
  10  boys booties - DONE

150  washcloths -  DONE

We are also doing a HELPING HANDS challenge for the Underground Railroad. They would like to continue to teach residents to knit and crochet to relieve stress and build confidence, and they need a few supplies. We’d like to send them:


15 skeins of yarn - DONE

10 pairs of knitting needles - DONE
10 crochet hooks - DONE
10 prs. of scissors (blunt children’s scissors) -  DONE
10 big-eyed yarn needles -  DONE

Last but not least, Underground Railroad would like some Cozies (pet blankets) for the family pets at the shelter.  Blankets can be sewn, crocheted or knitted but should be thick and solid so their paws do not go through holes in the blanket.  They should also be machine washable.  We generally recommend using two or three strands of worsted weight yarn held together. We would like to send them: 


3 small blankets (20” x 20”) - DONE
3 medium blankets (24” x 24”) -  DONE
3 large blankets (24” x 30”) - DONE
