CHALLENGE #46-2021 IS COMPLETE!

CHALLENGE #46-2021

Safe Nest

Las Vegas, Nevada

Safe Nest was opened in 1978 with 12 beds.  Today, they are the largest with over 70 beds - and most comprehensive domestic violence program in Nevada.  All shelters rely heavily on donations from the public to maintain their level of service especially today with budget restraints.  If you live in the Las Vegas area, you have likely seen their purple and white donation bins.  they have been placed throughout the Las Vegas Valley area.  They are emptied on a regular and have proven to be a very effective method to increase donations.

CHALLENGE #45-2021 is COMPLETE!

CHALLENGE #45-2021

Women of Nations -  Eagle's Nest Shelter

St. Paul, Minnesota

Women of Nations is one of very few non-reservation based, culturally specific domestic violence programs in the United States. While they serve all women and children fleeing domestic violence, they provide specific services for Native American women and children. Native American spirituality, healing ceremonies and cultural customs are used to facilitate the healing process. Women who arrive at Women of Nations have the opportunity to participate in sweat lodges, discuss their experiences in talking circles, celebrate moon and pipe ceremonies, and remain connected with their Native American community. These connections to Native American cultural traditions empower their clients to leave unhealthy relationships while remaining connected to their cultural heritage.

CHALLENGE #39-2021 is COMPLETE

CHALLENGE #39-2021

Tundra Women's Coalition

Bethel, Alaska

The Tundra Women's Coalition is located in Bethel, a community of about 6,500 residents in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta area of Alaska.   In 1978 the first shelter was opened in a renovated quonset hut.  In 2009 they received a grant to build a new state-of-the-art shelter.

An anticipated 20% cut in their federal funding in the near future will mean a significant loss in services.

The winters are long and hard in Alaska.  Let's send warm and toasty slippers to warm lots of toes and hearts!  We upped the numbers so they will have enough to last all winter.

If you do not want to have to worry about shipping costs but would like to contribute to this challenge,  gift cards are welcome so that shelters can select supplies they need.   Tundra Women's Coalition has requested Amazon cards only due to their remote location and limited local stores.

We are off to Alaska!

CHALLENGE #35-2021

Harmony House

Springfield, Missouri

"We truly appreciate your support and your kind hearts to take the time to do this for us."
Started by a concerned group of community members in 1976, Harmony House has been providing shelter and support services to domestic violence survivors ever since. They have impacted the lives of the 20,462 women, men and children who have been served to date.
The center began as a grassroots all-volunteer organization with the first survivors being sheltered in volunteers’ homes and area hotels, then in rented shelter homes.  In 2017, Harmony House moved into a new facility in Springfield expanding capacity from 110 to 168 beds making it the largest dv shelter in Missouri.
