In 2021, A Safe Place saw about 50-70 people each week. That is double the usual pre-pandemic numbers. For 2021, they served a total of 407 -a 104% increase over 2019.

The Shade Tree

North Las Vegas, Nevada 

The Shade Tree is a large 250 bed shelter which provides safe shelter to women and children escaping domestic violence. The shelter offers warm beds in a family dorm, daily meals, on side medical clinic as well as life-changing programs and services that encourage self-reliance. In homes where there is violence, pets are often threatened or injured by a violent partner. Noah’s Animal House is a pet sanctuary for shelter residents that allows women and children to escape abusive situations without leaving their pet behind. They are sheltered on the same property as Noah’s Animal House so that they can continue to visit with, and care for, their beloved pet. We are including Pet Cozies for Noah’s in the challenge for Shade Tree.

PET COZIES
Pet blankets may be knitted, crocheted or sewn, but must be washable!  Knit or crocheted blankets should be a tight weave, fairly thick (use several strands together or a single strand of #055 or #6 bulky yarn.) Suitable fabrics are denim, flannel, heavy cotton with batting in between layers and stitched from corner to corner so the batting doesn't bunch up when washed.
