BOWLING GREEN, KENTUCKY
Founded in 1980, the Barren River Area Safe Space, Inc. started as a community effort to create opportunities for accessibility for victims of domestic violence to receive emergency shelter and crisis aid, support services, and educational programming for victims and the community. Accredited by the Kentucky Coalition Against Domestic Violence, BRASS, Inc. is the provider for the BRADD region. Our current operation houses a 30-bed shelter, with on-site access to a laundry room, children’s playroom, and offices for our housing program, outreach services, and administration. Our Economic Justice Institute is a community room utilized for group support services and community meetings along with available computer access for client use. BRASS, Inc. supported 406 victims of DV sheltered last year and has seen a steady increase of about 3% over the past 3 years. Outreach and Advocacy programs provide Advocates to assist victims in the court process and local assessments in each county in our ADD with satellite offices in three counties, averaging almost 3,000 victims served each year. BRASS, Inc. is one of the largest programs among the 15 sister shelters in the state of Kentucky based off the number of victims/survivors served throughout the year. Current programs include two 24-hour crisis lines, economic empowerment and financial literacy programs, self-esteem enhancement, counseling services, parent and children's programs, housing assistance, community education and training opportunities for community partners on domestic violence related issues and agency services.

-SCISSORS: WE ASK THAT SCISSORS BE CHILDREN’S BLUNT TIPPED SCISSORS FOR SAFETY REASONS AND THEY ARE SHARP ENOUGH TO CUT YARN.
