Challenge #40-2022 is Complete

 Fremont County Alliance

Riverton, WY
At the Fremont Alliance, they feel that there is incredible healing
power in the sharing of stories. The power of these stories lies in
changing the story from one of victimization to one of survival,
strength and courage. When survivors Stand Up, Speak Up and Listen Up, they are then able to take back control in their own terms and are no longer defined by the story itself itself. FCA frequently has Native American women from the Shoshone and Arapaho tribes in shelter. They love handmade items!

Holiday Ornaments/ Decorations

We are going to be asking each shelter if they would like handmade ornaments or decorations with their packages. We want to be sure that we are meeting the needs of all our shelters and their residents. There are a few rules that need to be followed:

  1. Please do not send religious items..such as crosses, as an example, but focus on the festivity of the season and something that would bring joy to the majority of the residents and staff.
  2. Many shelters have storage issues so please include just a few items in your package and make them no larger than a washcloth would be (approx. 8 x 8 inches) in case they need to be stored.
  3. FOR SAFETY ISSUES: Do not use small items in your ornament that could be easily removed by a child and swallowed.
  4. Remember that each shelter gets 30-40 boxes each challenge. Keeping your extras to a minimum allows each of our members the chance to have their items seen and appreciated.
  5. We'll be doing this for each challenge until our break so there will be plenty of opportunities to spread the love around!
We will, from time to time, print some examples of what we have in mind. You can as well but, for legal reasons, do not print the pattern unless YOU are the designer. You can get plenty of ideas from places like Pinterest and Ravelry or go to your favorite search engine and put in "free holiday ornament patterns" and you'll be given lots of choices.
