There will be a Happy Hands for DoVES, Inc. in Atchison, KS. It will probably go up later today or tomorrow.

But first!   Rachel has been working on updating the number of slippers and washcloths that have been made and donated since August, 2009.

From August, 2009, until today, 11,219 pairs of slippers are warming toes and hearts in 119 shelters along with 9,559 washcloths!

We think that is absolutely fabulous!  Those figures show the care and dedication of the members of The Pink Slipper Project.

Hooray!   Challenge #22 of 2016 has been completed.  Over the next month, there should be 100 pairs of nice, cozy, warm handmade slippers and 100 handmade washcloths on their way to Kansas!

Next up - a Happy Hands challenge for the same shelter.   For anyone new to The Pink Slipper Project, when a shelter has a program in place to teach crafts/hobbies, such as, knitting and crocheting, or they would like to have supplies on hand for women and children coming into the shelter who may already know how to knit or crochet, we like to pitch in and send them some supplies to pass along our love for our crafts.  Knitting and crocheting can be great stress relievers!   We request a certain number of various items, such as, acrylic yarn, crochet hooks, knitting needles, large eye sewing needles for yarn, and children's scissors.  Members then pledge if they wish to send any of these items to that shelter.  It works the same way as our regular slippers and washcloths challenges.

So......stay tuned!   Happy Hands coming up next!

Most of our pledges come in on our Facebook page, but we try to keep the blog updated as the pledges come in with what is still needed in each category.   If you wish to pledge, please put it in a comment on this post or in the message box (top right) and we will receive it in our email - or send directly to email:  thepinkslipperproject@gmail.com

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask us.

Challenges have been moving right along on our Facebook page since I last posted here on the blog.  Due to some family health problems, I (Judy) haven't been able to keep up with posting the last several challenges.  As we have said before, the Facebook page is always current and we welcome you to join us there:

https://www.facebook.com/ThePinkSlipperProject/

We do accept pledges made here at the blog, too.  We only run one challenge at a time, so if you see a Challenge that is not marked "Challenge Completed" further down the blog, it only means that I have goofed and not marked it finished.  If you would happen to pledge on a challenge that has been completed, we will definitely let you know.

If you aren't signed up for Facebook and don't wish to, you can still see our page and all of our posts as they are public; however, you can not comment or make a pledge on the page unless you officially join.   You can make a pledge by sending it to us via our email address:    thepinkslipperproject@gmail.com     Be sure that you state the Challenge # and shelter name that you are pledging to.   We would need to know exactly what size/gender and number of slippers/washcloths that you are pledging, also.

If a specific size/gender category has already been filled on the Facebook page before we receive your email or blog pledge, we will let you know and ask if you would like to change to a different category which is still open.

If you have any questions, please ask us and we try to respond as soon as we can.

We hope that you will join in with us, either here or on Facebook, as we warm hearts and toes of women and children living in domestic abuse shelters across the US>

***NEW*** CHALLENGE #16 - 2016

SAFE NEST
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA

****CHALLENGE COMPLETED****

Safe Nest was opened in 1978 with 12 beds. Today 39 years later, they are the largest - with 70 beds - and the most comprehensive domestic violence program in Nevada.
All shelters rely on donations from the public to maintain the level of service. Donations can be in any form. They all love money, of course. Many shelters have a Wish List on their website of items that are needed such as laundry detergent to socks. I often see slippers and washcloths.

If you live in the Las Vegas area, you have likely seen purple and white donation bins. They belong to Safe Nest and have been placed throughout the Las Vegas Valley area. They are emptied on a regular basis and have proven to be a very effective method to increase donations.

So, today, we are going to make a donation to Safe Nest. Our donation will provide warmth for toes of all sizes and we hope they help warm the soul as well.

So let's get busy and make a pledge to Safe Nest:

 75 women - DONE

NEW CHALLENGE TO BE POSTED TODAY!

Our last challenge (on our Facebook page), a Cozies for Pets challenge for the Circle of Hope shelter in Georgia, was a success!    All pet blankets requested were pledged!

We now have a NEW SHELTER CHALLENGE......in Nevada.....that will be posted around 1:00 PM (Eastern) today (Wednesday).   We hope you will join in with us to help warm hearts and toes there as soon as possible.

CHALLENGE #15 OF 2016 HAS BEEN COMPLETED!   Thank you to everyone who made pledges.  The mission of The Pink Slipper Project could not be accomplished without everyone's help.....whether you pledge one pair of slippers or one washcloth or many.  We appreciate all of you and hope that you will continue to join in as often as you are able.

Stay tuned, though.  The Circle of Hope shelter has a pet program in place, so we will be doing a "Cozies for Pets" challenge very shortly to send them some nice cozy, handmade blankets for their fur babies that are staying there, too.

Thanks to a final pledge from one of our newest members, Elaine, CHALLENGE #13 OF 2016 has been COMPLETED!!   We hope that many hearts and toes in Meridian, Mississippi, will be warmed with all of your wonderful handmade slippers and washcloths!

Rachel is working on getting all of the information ready for our next challenge - and it may be a bigger one - so, if you didn't get in on the last challenge, we hope that you will start or continue making slippers and washcloths in your favorite sizes so that you will be ready to pledge when the next shelter challenge is posted.   Don't forget - we have a "Sizing Chart" which can be found in the right hand column, which lists a breakdown of the slipper sizes (by gender/age) that we usually request for each challenge.   You can use our Signature Pink Slipper patterns or any pattern of your choosing (no decorations on children's/babies slippers due to a possible choking hazard, please).

When a challenge is posted, which includes the numbers of slippers/washcloths requested for that specific shelter, our members post a "pledge" to make a specific number of slippers and/or washcloths and send them directly to the address listed in the challenge information.   We do not have a central location to store slippers and washcloths made by our members and then send them out to various shelters.  Instead of sending them to us, you are sending them directly to the shelter that you made them for!

We work mainly from our Facebook page, so if you would like to join us there, we would love to have you.  But if not, you can join in on challenges as we list them here.  We try to keep the numbers still needed in each category updated as quickly as possible (as most pledges come in on the Facebook page).   Just put your pledge in a "comment" on the challenge post and we will receive it.   Occasionally, a pledge will come in for a category that has been filled.  If so, we will get back to you and let you know as quickly as we can.

WE HOPE YOU WILL JOIN US NEXT TIME!    KEEP WATCHING!
