WOMEN AGAINST ABUSE
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
******CHALLENGE COMPLETED****
Women Against Abuse opened the first domestic violence shelter in Philadelphia, PA, back in 1977. At that time, it was in a small, rented house. Three years later they relocated and expanded their services. Thirty years later, in 2007, WAA worked with city officials and relocated to a new, 100-bed facility and doubled their capacity. Even so, they operated at full capacity and turned away an astounding number of requests for help. In 2014 they added another 100 beds and are able to provide more services to a greater number of domestic violence victims. This is both sad (that all of these beds and services are even needed) and heartening (that these services are now available and fewer victims are turned away).
Because this is a very large shelter, we are breaking down this challenge into two segments for pledges. The second segment will be posted next week. If you make a pledge to BOTH segments, you may go ahead and mail out your pledges for part one as soon as they are ready - OR - you can wait and mail out both pledges together by the deadline to save on shipping costs.
Please feel free to add a note to your shipment that your slippers/washcloths are part of The Pink Slipper Project challenge. (A link to the PSP Donation Tags can be found in the right-hand column of the blog.)
For Part #1, we are requesting pledges for the following:
35 Women's (Small, 8”-*8-1/2”) - DONE
35 Women’s (Medium, 9”-9-/12”) - DONE
30 Women’s (Large, 10”-11”) - DONE
