The O’Neill Shelter is part of Bright Horizons in Nebraska, assisting women, men, and children escape violence and abuse. Bright Horizons has several shelters in Nebraska, and our previous challenge earlier this week was for a Bright Horizons Shelter in Norfolk.


The O’Neill Shelter is a smaller shelter and we would like to provide them with the following:


SLIPPERS & WASHCLOTHS: (All children’s slippers, except the men/teen boys, should be made in neutral colors suitable for either a boy or a girl.)

CHALLENGE #35 - 2018

BRIGHT HORIZONS - NORFOLK & TRANSITIONAL SHELTERS
Norfolk, Nebraska

Bright Horizons began in 1976 with one woman opening her home for abused victims in the Norfolk area.  Today Bright Horizons covers a 10 county service area and is reaching more survivors than ever before. Bright Horizons is dedicated to the elimination of domestic violence and sexual assault through empowerment, education, social action, and support services.  Bright Horizons has two shelters, plus transitional housing.  We are going to do two separate challenges for them this week, with two different mailing addresses, but the same “mail by” date for both.


We would like to send the following to the Norfolk shelter and for the transitional housing:

SLIPPERS & WASHCLOTHS (Please make all children’s slippers, except men/teen boys, in neutral colors so that they could be worn by either a girl or a boy. Thank You.)

Well, our last challenge (#34-2018) finished up quickly over in our Facebook group, but we will have another new challenge coming before too long.    We are finalizing numbers for a few small shelters and we may post another small challenge this week.    If not, we have a larger shelter challenge lined up to be posted the beginning of next week......so, stay tuned!

CHALLENGE #34 - 2018

UMBRELLA CENTER FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
North Haven, Connecticut

“In 1976, community activists organized a conference at the New Haven YWCA to discuss the plight of battered women and to create a safety net for them.  The result was the New Haven Project for Battered Women, formed in 1977 by volunteers who hid women and children in their homes, ran support groups, and staffed a hotline.  Domestic Violence Services offers a wide range of crisis and other services for victims of domestic violence and their children.  All services are free and available to individuals and their children in the Greater New Haven and surrounding communities who have had their lives disrupted by domestic violence.”

Serving multiple counties in Kentucky, our staff is trained to provide support and information in a way that allows victims to take control of their lives. We offer a help line, case management, counseling, assistance in finding housing, and legal advocacy.”

CHALLENGE #32 - 2018

THE JULIAN CENTER
Indianapolis, Indiana

****CHALLENGE COMPLETED****

The Julian Center is the largest domestic violence emergency shelter and family justice center in Indiana.  Since 1975, women have chosen The Julian Center as a source of strength and a place of refuge from domestic violence.  Since 1982, women have turned to The Julian Center's 24-hour shelter to escape abusive relationships and find safety for themselves and their children.  A United Way agency, The Julian Center was founded by one of the first women Episcopal priests with grants from Lilly Endowment and the Episcopal Diocese.


The Julian Center is a shelter we worked with in 2014 and are so happy to be able to help them again.  We want to support them by sending:
